GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 509098
whenever right-clicking on a CD it's unmounted
Last modified: 2009-07-29 10:47:33 UTC
Please describe the problem: in the "computer" nautilus location, if i right-click on a CD drive and pick "copy CD", the CD is unmounted. after i'm done with nautilus-cd-burner, it's not mounted again. Steps to reproduce: 1. go to "computer" in nautilus 2. right-click on a CD drive (containing a CD), "copy CD" 3. click "cancel" in the "copy CD" window Actual results: the CD is unmounted Expected results: the CD should be mounted, the way it was before i clicked "copy CD" Does this happen every time? yes Other information: this is gnome 2.20.1 (ubuntu). maybe it's fixed in the development version. also i'm pretty sure it didn't happen in 2.18. also, i gave the example of cancelling the copy, but even when letting the copy finishing to the end, the CD is also not remounted.
it could be some bug on hal i'll do some research about this.
Apparently the CD needs to be unmounted temporarily while the copying is taking place. However, it should be remounted once it's finished. Also, IMHO the unmounting should only happen when copying actually starts; now, if the user cancels the 'Copy Disc ...' dialog box, that too will cause the CD to remain unmounted. There are several Ubuntu bugs about this, so it should probably be marked as confirmed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/35639 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/50234 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312658
Oh, the bug title is incorrect -- is there any way to fix that? The unmounting only happens when you select "Copy Disc ..." from the right-click menu, AFAIK.
I confirm this bug, too. The master Ubuntu bug is https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-cd-burner/+bug/50234 I think the point is, as era already said: The medium (cd/dvd) should only be unmounted if really necessary, not too early. And after the application has finished, it must be remounted again. Thanks!
nautilus-cd-burner has been replaced by Brasero in the GNOME 2.26 release. If your bug still applies to Brasero, please feel free to re-open the bug, and reassign it to brasero itself.
