Version: 0.11.4 What were you doing when the application crashed? Rhythmbox was just playing some ogg vorbis files in the background while it crashed in the middle of a song. A couple of duplicates from mandriva cooker users.. is there a new version of rhythmbox or libsoup in cooker today?
Yes, rhythmbox 0.11.4 and libsoup 2.2.104. The gst output plugin is gst-pulse 0.9.7.
I indeed suspect this to be a side-effect of another package update, but I am not sure which. I already opened this Mandriva bug too: http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=36425 I mostly suspect pulseaudio related packages or, purely based on my personal package installation logs, even more likely lib64bonobo2_0-2.20.3-1mdv2008.1 and lib64bonoboui2_0-2.20.0-1mdv2008.1 (is this possible?). libsoup is at version 2.2.104 since 27/11, so I guess that's not the one to blame. And it's the same rhythmbox package which was working two or three days ago, which is now crashing.

I think this may be a bug in libsoup triggered by particular behaviour of the last.fm submission server, which at present is apparently "Not 100% responding" according to last.fm staff: http://www.last.fm/forum/21713/_/51596 It seems to be intermittently refusing connections for me. Maybe you get different behaviour if you're using an http proxy? If someone could get a stack trace with full debug symbols for any particular version of libsoup, that would probably help. The duplicate reported in bug 506585 only looks like it has debug symbols. The line numbers are actually bogus.
Here is a backtrace with libsoup-debug installed: Distribution: Mandriva Linux release 2008.1 (Cooker) for x86_64 Gnome Release: 2.21.4 2007-12-18 (Mandriva) BugBuddy Version: 2.20.1 System: Linux 2.6.24-desktop-0.rc6.2mdv #1 SMP Fri Dec 28 12:08:06 EST 2007 x86_64 X Vendor: The X.Org Foundation X Vendor Release: 10400000 Selinux: No Accessibility: Disabled GTK+ Theme: MurrinaGilouche Icon Theme: OSX Memory status: size: 634642432 vsize: 634642432 resident: 57528320 share: 23044096 rss: 57528320 rss_rlim: 18446744073709551615 CPU usage: start_time: 1199185652 rtime: 489 utime: 370 stime: 119 cutime:1 cstime: 35 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 100 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/rhythmbox' Using host libthread_db library "/lib64/libthread_db.so.1". Happy New Year! :-)
We also have an Ubuntu report about it here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/182097
This is a bug in the Last.fm plugin; disabling the plugin makes the crash go away.
The bug is very likely in libsoup. Has somebody asked the libsoup developer to take a look at this bug? If not, I can contact him.

Ah this should be fixed in libsoup svn (though that requires the not-yet-committed patch from bug 509701 for rhythmbox. I may end up putting out a libsoup 2.2.105 release containing the last few bugfixes for the 2.2 branch, for distros that need to still support that for a while.) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 437835 ***
