GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 505507
No generic icons in mimetype data (for e.g. archive files)
Last modified: 2009-02-04 18:30:39 UTC
Please describe the problem: Archive files have a wrong mime icon on nautilus. Steps to reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: archive files have text mime icon. Expected results: Does this happen every time? yes, always Other information: gnome-mime-data-2.18.0-2.fc7 gvfs-0.1.0-1.fc9 shared-mime-info-0.23-1.fc9 gnome-icon-theme-2.21.4-1.fc9
Yes, happens also to me on Gentoo.
What kind of archive files? Zip?
Created attachment 102095 [details] Zip,rar,bz2,gz,rpm, etc (In reply to comment #2) > What kind of archive files? Zip? > Zip, rar, bz2, gz, rpm, etc. Maybe all arcihve files?
the problem still persists in nautilus 2.21.2 happens with all archive types.
We're just using the mimetype to set the icon atm, as we lack more info in the mime db. See this for more info: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2008-January/msg00025.html
Strangely though the rodent theme does show the right icons for archive types. All other themes don't.
I have registered my own icon, for my app - vinagre - files (*.vnc). Nautilus 2.20 was showing it perfectly, but new nautilus don't. Double click on the file is fine, file properties is showing the right mime type. The only error is that the icon is not being showed. Instead, I see the file preview, because .vnc is subclass of text/plain (It's just an .ini file).
Ah, in the gtkfilechooser dialog, the icon is displayed normally.

Created attachment 105697 [details] Nautilus Yes, I am using gio.
Created attachment 105698 [details] file chooser
That was mostly due to the new code using icons using the gnome-icon-mimetype naming, alex fixed that to svn now: http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/glib?view=revision&revision=6557 I think the bug can be closed and the few other buggy cases should be fixed in the icon themes or shared-mime-info
It has been fixed to archive (.zip,...) files, Ooo files, but .vnc files still have the wrong icon...
