GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 504595
Sometimes alt+tab shows just icons where window contents are available
Last modified: 2008-04-30 23:19:10 UTC
Seems hard to reproduce but this happened to me a couple of times today: 1. Open a new window 2. Windows displays correctly 3. Hit alt+tab 4. Only icon (no thumbnail) is present 5. Switch desktops forth and back again 6. Hit alt+tab 7. Thumbnail appears correctly It seems obvious that since the window is visible, it's contents should be abailable to the compositor. Also, when trying to reproduce the above, another visual glitch appeared, see attachment and tell me if it's worth to file a bug.
Created attachment 101296 [details] Incorrect shadow rendering on new windows
For the original bug, see: http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=2122872443&context=set-72057594056467726&size=o In that screenshot it's clearly visible that the window is on screen and thus managed by metacity. Still, alt+tab does not have a thumbnail available.
(In reply to comment #1) > Created an attachment (id=101296) [edit] > Incorrect shadow rendering on new windows Has nothing to do with this bug. Please keep bugs to a single issue.
iain: Sorry, I know it has nothing to do. As I wrote: "see attachment and tell me if it's worth to file a bug" ;)
More research: If I have a window that covers another window completely, sometimes alt+tabbing to that desktop has the thumbnail for small window, sometimes it doesn't. It's easier to reproduce if you switch to another desktop and alt+tab there first before coming back to the one with two windows. Let me know if I can help you in some other ways, your metacity compositor is the best thing since sliced bread.

As I wrote: > > "see attachment and tell me if it's worth to file a bug" ;) Yeah, I saw that...its just easier in the long run to file a bug instead of cluttering up another bug asking if you should file a bug :) I've started to be able to reproduce this and playing with the backing store is what I've been doing today, so maybe something will come out of that :) thanks
This might be fixed in SVN Head as I noticed a bug there recently.
