GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 504160
apps status restored, .gnome2/sessions
Last modified: 2020-10-30 14:32:20 UTC
Please describe the problem: [Laptop]I have a few apps running. VIM, music, browser etc. Suddenly my computer says that battery power is low and is shutting down. I plug in the power supply and start my pc. Upon start all my apps are restored. I close them, go do some other stuff. Next time I start my computer brings all these apps again, and again and again. Each time it start the same apps are restored and there is no way for me to prevent them from starting up. Steps to reproduce: 1. run program, apps, browsers etc. let battery run low to shut down the computer. 2. start computer again, all apps should be restored. Close them. 3. shutdown and start again, all apps should be restored. Close them 4. shutdown and start again, all apps should be restored. Close them 5. shutdown and start again, all apps should be restored. Close them Actual results: Apps are restored even after I closed them before shutdown Expected results: Apps should not be restored after I close them. Does this happen every time? When computer shuts down do to low battery. Other information:
Gnome 2.14.3 Distribution: Debian Build date: 02/15/07 I still have this problem. Is there some kind of file that hold the information which program suppose to be restarted? Could you tell me how do I stop these apps (terminal, vim. music player, ssh connection) to stop starting every time I start my computer. Thanks, Lucas
Solved: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=167280 delete the sessions file in /.gnome or ./gnome2 in your home folder. That way gnome will go back to the default session. I deleted the file in .gnome2/sessions and it all went back to normal. Couldn't we add some kind of check to see if the program listed in session is closed then delete the session when shutting down. This is a duplicate of bug 301949... When the battery went down the session where saved thus "trigging" the "session save bug". The following startup the session where restored automatically and the session save (only temporarily enabled because of the powerfail) removed, with the saved session now constantly on.
Assuming that this problem is obsolete nowadays. If you can still reproduce this problem with a recent version (currently: 3.38) of GNOME / gnome-session, then please report this at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/issues/ and follow https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines - thanks a lot!
