Description Julien Valroff 2007-12-09 19:51:32 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Hi,

This bug was originally reported against the Debian package by J. Bruce Fields:

If user 1 and 2 are both logged in, and user 2 logs out and then logs
back in again, then choosing user 2 from user 1's fast-user-switch
applet no longer sends me to the virtual terminal with user 2's login
session; instead I end up with a blank screen and have to hunt around
with alt-ctl-F<n> to find it.

Steps to reproduce:
1. User 1 is logged in
2. Switch to user 2 though f-u-s-a
3. User 2 closes the current session
4. and logs in again
5. Switch back to user 1

Actual results:
From user 1 session, you can't reach user 2 desktop:
   a. you only see a blank screen
   (or)
   b. nothing happens, the VT isn't changed

Expected results:
Should switch to user 2 session

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Not sure if this is related, but I've noticed similar behaviour (haven't searched to track down the original cause) on Ubuntu Gutsy's fast-user-switch (as well as fusa 2.21):

Steps:

1. User 1 is logged in
2. Switch to user 2 through fusa
3. Switch back to user 1

Expected:

Should switch to user 1

Actual:

Switches to blank screen.

Comment 3 Thomas Thurman 2008-01-04 14:24:17 UTC
should there be a number on there?

I can confirm this bug persists in 2.24.0, on Arch Linux.

Also, #499550 appears to be a duplicate of this bug.

*** Bug 499550 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***

I can confirm this in Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 (if you need the specific fast-user-switch-applet version let me know and I'll get it, not in front of the PC). You can get more info from the Ubuntu bug report here:

Comment 8 Akhil Laddha 2011-06-10 12:24:53 UTC
fast-user-switch-applet development has been stalled and it has been unmaintained for a few years now. Maintainers don't have future development plan so i am closing the bugs as WONTFIX. Please feel free to reopen the bugs in future if anyone takes the responsibility of active development.
