GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 498890
Gimp.app assumes that GIMP requires X11
Last modified: 2008-10-30 20:05:11 UTC
Please describe the problem: On Mac OS X 10.4.11, I have built and am running GIMP on a system without a working X11 installed. Gimp.app fails to launch gimp in these circumstances, attempting to open X11, when X11 is not a requirement for the successful launch and operation of GIMP. Steps to reproduce: 1. remove X11 2. build gimp per http://shyramblings.blogspot.com/2007/11/gimp-on-mac-os-x-without-x11-from.html 3. double click on gimp.app in the Finder Actual results: Gimp.app throws an error complaining that X11 can not be found and is required Expected results: Gimp.app opens GIMP Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: I built GIMP, Gimp.app, and their dependencies using the MacPorts porting system.
After I reported this, it was pointed out to me that Gimp.app is not part of the gimp project, but is a separate project at http://gimp-app.sourceforge.net/ and that there is a workaround available in MacPorts (sudo port install gimp-app +quartz if you are interested) Sorry about the noise.
