Perhaps additional GUI support for local file feeds would be nice too? Like file chooser dialog? Ideas are welcome.

Hi!

Actually, a simple support for file:/// URLs would do IMO, but in case you feel a separate UI is warranted (file chooser etc.), I don't mind. :-)

Support for file: scheme has already been implemented in the development version.

I've also filed bug 507931 as a follow-up.
