GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 497438
change the setup to print in landscape mode is too complicated
Last modified: 2007-11-19 07:15:08 UTC
I had some problem to print in landscape mode with gnumeric on feisty. I try the same thing with with Gutsy and I was unable to change the page setup before to print. But thanks to Andreas Guelzow , he explain me how to do it : select page-setup click on "Change paper type" this opens a second dialog in which you can choose the orientation via radio buttons. I think the method is very bad. It's too complex. When you want to print in landscape mode, generally you are choosing it in the preview print mode or in the print mode but with gnumeric you have to choose with another menu. Perhaps it's me but I'm pretty sure that a lot of people will have a lot of problem with this and think that the software is too complex if you need to use different menus to configure a simple thing like this. Other information: This was reported on Launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnumeric/+bug/163154 by: https://bugs.launchpad.net/~humufr
Andreas tells me this must be a gtk+ issue and not a gnumeric one.
Comment from original reporter: "Andreas told me that it's probably related to GTK+ but so why it's not the same configuration which is opening in eog and gnumeric? In eog you have from "page setup" the possibility to choose landscape. with gnumeric you have to do another action and choose "page setup" and "Change paper type" so another action to do a very simple and very useful trick especially with spreadsheet. Netherless I think that the functionality is to difficult to find and something has to be change. I'm pretty sure that it's a mistake in the HID from GTK+..."
Note that the dialog eog and gnumeric use to set up landscape printing. THat is the gtk page setup dialog. Unfortunately gtk "forgot" to allow for other options to included in that dialog. Eog appears happy since they don't allow you to format the page any further. (Well there are a few items inside the print dialog but they form a last time before printing situation.) Gnumeric requires/offers many more settings. So we could have 2 page setup dialogs but I don't think that is an improvement. Any suggestions?

while I am somewhat worried about having two places where the orientation can be changed I have added some more easily accessible change possibility.
Thank you !
