Description bun 2007-10-30 12:16:43 UTC
I am using gnumeric 1.7.0 on a Nokia 770. In order to enter data to a cell, one has to first tap the cell, and then tap the data entry bar on top of the spread sheet, this activates a software keyboard, one can then enter data. My question is why tapping a cell does not automatically invoke the keyboard? this is an extra step for every single data entry! Is this a bug or any setting/preference I can set? Thanks

When using a BT keyboard with Nokia 770 / N800, the same situation metioned above occurs. After you have arrowed over or selected a cell, you are required to touch in the data entry / formula bar with your stylus or finger before you can enter data into the cell (somewhat limiting the ease of use with a BT keyboard). In Excel, normally you can arrow to / select a cell and type the data in, without having to select the formula bar. I have no experience with gnumeric on a non-Maemo computer, so I don't know if they is a Maemo only issue.

I can somewhat understand when using the software keyboard, why you can not select a cell and keep typing. A cell is almost always selected (even when just looking at it), which would cause the keyboard to be displayed at all times (therefore limited screen space).

A better option would be to have a setting/preference so the user can determine if formula bar must be selected for data entry.
