Description Biguma 2007-10-25 21:29:29 UTC
Dear Colleague,

Could you please help me? I can't actually play music whilst using "Rhythmbox Music Player which is actually part of the newly released "Ubuntu 7.10" ("Gusty Gibbon")?

Do I need to install any further plug ins and if this is the case, could you please specify which one?

Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.

Best regards,

Biguma.

What is the problem exactly?

Do you get an error message? If so, yes?

If not, could you describe what happens?

If a song can't be played, there should be a read warning symbol in the playlist. If you click on it, it should provide you with more information about what is needed.

Usually, playback problems are due to either

 - wrong/nonfunctioning audio output method
(go to System => Preferences => Sound and make
sure that the selected output in the Music/Movies
    section works)

 - missing plugins; hard to say what you need, it depends on
what you are trying to play. You may want to install the
   gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly, gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse,
   gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse
   and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg packages too.

If you play a file in totem (Movie Player), even if it's an audio file, it should offer to install the required missing plugins automatically.
