Description Petr Pisar 2007-10-23 20:25:03 UTC
Incorrect translation
Application: gtk+

Incorrect text:
Translation of string "credits" in gtk+-2.10.14 is considered by me as ugly. Current translation is "kredity".

Should be:
I suggest "zásluhy". If you accept my proposion, please replace all occurances of the string in the catalogue.

Patch against the cs.po file, revision 18951.

I am convinced of "zásluhy" being a better translation than "kredity", too. I have made a patch on the basis of my own more extensive translation. It incorporates the proposed change regarding "zásluhy".

Also, I have posted an email to the gnome-cs-list@gnome.org mailing list, which would hopefully start some discussion among translators, i.a., on this topic. See <http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-cs-list/2007-October/msg00000.html>.
Comment 2 André Klapper 2007-10-29 17:21:30 UTC
it would be nice to have a diff without the filename path changes included, so the string changes can be reviewed easily (there are some more string changes around, like
-msgstr[0] "nemohu alokovat paměť pro obrázek o velikosti %u bajt"
+msgstr[0] "nelze alokovat paměť pro obrázek o velikosti %u bajt"
, and the new string is better in my opinion [as far as i understand czech :-)])

i applied your patch to /po/cs.po in the latest gtk+ svn trunk checkout and it improves translation to 100%. nice work!

As I have noted before, my patch was not meant to be a simple fix for the "credits" translation, but rather a complete revision of the current Czech translation. It may be considered as a part of series of my translation improvement efforts regarding the Czech l10n. All those translations are waiting for the Czech coordinator (the assignee) to review them and eventually commit them to SVN.

> -msgstr[0] "nemohu alokovat paměť pro obrázek o velikosti %u bajt"
> +msgstr[0] "nelze alokovat paměť pro obrázek o velikosti %u bajt"

I personally consider usage of computer in a first-person expression as somewhat old-fashioned, but some translators obviously keep using it.

Thanks, Andre.

Additional note (to the assignee in particular): the proposed patch is out of date for the time being. The most up to date translation patch for GTK+ is available at <http://www.bystrc.net/l10n/gtk-cs.tgz>, see the <gnome-cs-list@gnome.org> postings or <http://www.bystrc.net/l10n/> for details.

fixed in svn
Comment 7 Petr Kovar 2008-02-18 17:18:11 UTC
Confirmed here, so reopening the bug. However, I'm not sure whether the strings are user visible.
Comment 8 Petr Kovar 2008-02-18 17:21:55 UTC
Changing the status to ASSIGNED.
Comment 9 Petr Kovar 2008-03-08 02:25:50 UTC
The issue has been fixed for libgnomeui.
Comment 10 Petr Kovar 2008-03-10 10:09:25 UTC
Also fixed for Property Nicks. Closing the bug.
