Description aaron 2001-09-10 01:18:45 UTC
To repeat: Open a Nautilus window. Go to, say, "Tree view" in the sidebar and
browse your files for awhile. Close the window. The tree view isn't there any
more and you have to open it again.

The Sidebar should remember its state between instances of a Nautilus window.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on this one. I would like to be able
to select the tree view, and have the tree view *always* come up i the
future.

Is there any work being done on this? The bug has been set on
UNCONFIRMED for a long time. I for one can confirm that it is a
problem, though I don't have the ability to change the status.
Comment 2 aaron 2002-04-01 15:53:18 UTC
Well, I can mark this bug as confirmed and gnome2.

This still happens in nautilus2-- the sidebar remembers that it
exists, and has the same width, but the tree tab i left open is now
closed. when i open the tree-tab, it's once again collapsed to /

I'm bumping this up to "minor" since I think this is a usability bug,
rather than a user-visible feature.
Comment 7 Pedro Lopes 2002-10-03 14:23:52 UTC
This is a highly visible bug. I started using nautilus with gnome2 and
it is one of the first problems I noticed (along with bug 82884).
And judging by the duplicates I'm not alone...
So, any chance this could be retargeted for 2.2.x?
Comment 8 Tan Siong Hua 2002-10-21 16:03:15 UTC
supporting this, treeview should be default.
Comment 9 Mark Finlay 2002-11-23 09:49:38 UTC
This bug makes the tree view sidebar totally useless as one has to
select it every time.

This is one of the most commonly mentioned nautilus bugs and is
IMHO severly crippling. I can't imagine that there is a huge
amount of code required. A gconf key to save the state of the
sidebar. Then nautilus could set that key when the user
changes the current sidebar.

I think that this should have a higher priority and it would be
great to see in 2.2, but if not then 2.4 - but nautilus isn't my area
so i'm not going to go messing around with this bug.

Luis?
Comment 10 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-11-23 14:04:25 UTC
well just to note this. according to havoc you shouldn't use gconf for
saving state information, only preferences.
Comment 11 Mark Finlay 2003-02-09 17:10:28 UTC
Well however it get's done, it'd be great to do for 2.2.x ;)
Comment 12 Dave Camp 2003-03-02 02:33:20 UTC
I fixed this in cvs.

I was lame and used gconf, since some of the other stuff (like sidebar
visibility) is also there. I filed a separate bug (107375) about that.
