Description trondsg 2007-09-27 13:11:56 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The font smoothing or hinting settings are not applied.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open gnome-terminal, and select "use the system fixed with font".
2. Do the same with gedit
3. Notice how the font rendering is very different in gedit and gnome-terminal. Gedit is right.

I have similar problem with some bitmap embedded korean fonts.

When using specific font that has embedded bitmap area, all gnome application like gedit, gvim, gnome main menu applet shows embedded bitmap correctly. But gnome-terminal shows just antialiased font as like ignoring embedded bitmap area.

But another bitmap embedded font(Guseul in ubuntu ttf-alee package) works fine both other gtk apps and gnome-terminal.

The specific fonts are gulim.ttc and batang.ttc came from Windows XP Korean edition. It's XP default fonts for Korean character.

After Turn off antialias at ~/.fonts.conf explicitly, gnome-terminal shows embedded bitmap area correctly.

Maybe ignoring embeddedbitmap property?

I'll attatch 'GulimChe' fc-match -v output and screenshot that shows gedit, gvim, gnome-terminal with GulimChe.

Sorry, I forgot leave my spec.

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy

$ gnome-terminal --version
GNOME gnome-terminal 2.18.2

fontconfig 2.4.2-1.2ubuntu4
Comment 5 Ilmari Vacklin 2008-03-21 22:21:49 UTC
It seems to be that on Ubuntu, the settings in /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-hinting-{medium,full}.conf take priority over the ones in GNOME's settings panel, but only in gnome-terminal.
Comment 6 Tobias Wolf 2008-04-04 01:47:23 UTC
This is NOTGNOME.
It's a fontconfig file that Ubuntu added for peace's sake among developers.
Comment 7 Behdad Esfahbod 2008-04-04 19:23:10 UTC
This should be fixed in vte 0.16.10.

This is still a problem in vte 0.17.4 with gnome-terminal 2.24.1.
Comment 9 Christian Persch 2008-12-18 17:08:37 UTC
This is probably fixed in vte svn trunk / vte 0.19.x .
Comment 10 Behdad Esfahbod 2008-12-18 21:54:35 UTC
Please attach screenshots with vte 0.19.x.

I assume this is not an issue anymore. Please reopen if it still is!
