GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 480784
Add "close all windows of this application" context menu entry of window-buttons
Last modified: 2020-11-07 12:13:55 UTC
The new possibility to rearrange buttons in the the window-list of the panel, like tabs in Firefox, is really nice : thank you for that :-) Maybe we could also have an option to close all windows generated by a same application in one click ? I'll try to explain my feature erquest through two observations : 1. With nautilus, when lots of windows are opened, you can close all of them by doing ctrl+shift+W. why not with the mouse ? And why only with Nautilus ? 2. In Firefox, when there are lots of tabs opened, you have the possibilty to "close all other tabs" from the tab context menu. Now imagine that i don't want tabs since they introduce a concurrent system of windows-buttons in the panel which can be confusing for the user. Therefore i prefer opening new links in new windows and manage windows opened by Firefox (or any other navigator) through the window-list applet of the panel. That way, i can take advantage of all the new functionnalities brought by modern windows managers (i.e. Compiz Fusion) like selecting graphically a window (thanks to Exposé-like stuff - named "Scale" in Compiz Fusion) which is much more convenient than the "old" tabs system. Then i'll get quickly lots of windows (like i used to get lots of tabs with the "old" system) and i would appreciate to be able to close all of them in one click, for instance by selecting the appropriate entry in a window-button context menu, like i used in Firefox. indeed, they seem different
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old feature requests in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years. If you still use gnome-panel and if you are still requesting this feature in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/ Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be implemented.
