GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 480190
files added archive are wrongly placed in root
Last modified: 2008-04-29 08:38:29 UTC
The bug has been opened on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139350 "In gutsy when I open some archive in file roller and whant to add some files to some directory inside this archive files are added to the root of the archive. In Feisty this worked fine. I have all the latest updates installed. ... I am not creating new archive. I am adding new file to existing archive. I have an archive with one folder in it. And when I open it in File-roller, go to the subfolder and drag-and-drop a new file into this subfolder it is added in the root directory of my archive. Archive is .tar.gz but this bug is present for other types of archive as well. ... http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9276550/test.zip ... Can anyone else test this bug? #1. open atached archive if file roller (Archive manager) by double clicking on it. #2. go to folder test -> subfolder inside this archive. #3. Drag and drop some file inside this subfolder and see if it appears in the subfolder of in the root of the archive I have tested this bug on 3 different computers and it always puts the new file in the root folder instrad of needed subfolder."

I can confirm this bug still happens on file-roller 2.22.2 / Gnome 2.22.1 on Ubuntu Hardy. Dragging and dropping files added the files in the current working directory in Feisty (version 2.18.1 of file-roller), but in Hardy (version 2.22.2) it adds them in the archive root.
fixed in trunk and in the gnome-2-22 branch. The fix will go into the next software releases, 2.22.3 and 2.23.2. Thank you for your bug report.
