GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 47548
can't set charset in localized manpages view.
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
I have used localization man pages(in korean). When I select man pages in help tab of sidebar, nautilus shows man page with broken characters. and after I choose charset in view menu to view with right charset, nautilus shows blank page, or previous visited web page. ------- Additional Comments From don@eazel.com 2001-03-08 09:30:18 ---- Is this just a problem with Korean? ------- Additional Comments From dan@eazel.com 2001-03-08 10:04:54 ---- Changing component to "Internationalization (i18n)". Reassigning to Ramiro. ------- Additional Comments From ramiro@fateware.com 2001-03-08 17:15:10 ---- Can you spoonfeed me the steps to reproduce this problem ? ------- Additional Comments From ganadist@chollian.net 2001-03-08 21:31:18 ---- I explain that in this page. http://203.250.77.167/~ganadist/nautilus/manpage/ ------- Additional Comments From ramiro@fateware.com 2001-03-09 05:19:24 ---- Thanks for the explaination. I dont seem to have Korean man pages on my system, even though i have a bunch of other translated ones, like man-pages-ja for example. Where can I get these ? Also, i tried the following: http://kr.yahoo.com Which is the Korean Yahoo web site, and selected the EUC-KR encoding from the view menu and it worked. So that mean that viewing html content encoded as such works. Now, I tried the exact same experiment you describe and got the same results. I end up with a blank page, just like you. The blank page "about:blank" is a special url that mozilla recognizes as a blank page. Its whacky that Nautilus is displaying that at all. Its possible that our streaming usage of Mozilla is somehow broken such that specially encoded web pages (other than ascii) dont display. So we do indeed have a bug here. Thanks for the bug report. Ill try and debug it some more over here, but it might be too late for 1.0 to fix this, since we only have 1 day left to make 1.0 fixes. If not for 1.0, we should definately fix this right after that. Unrelated to the above, do you know where I can download Korean scalable fonts ? I would like to test Korean stuff more in the future with Nautilus and I couldnt find anywhere on the net where Korean fonts could be had for free. I notice in one of your screen shots that the sidebar tabs are rendering properly in Korean - which is very cool, especially since I've never seen this working before. Thanks. Upping the time estimate to 1 day. ------- Additional Comments From ganadist@chollian.net 2001-03-09 06:55:26 ---- You can download korean man page from http://man.kldp.org/down/man-pages-ko-20010224-1.src.rpm and You can download baekmuk font (korean open license font and I used) from ftp://ftp.mizi.com/pub/baekmuk/ ------- Additional Comments From ramiro@fateware.com 2001-03-09 08:06:08 ---- Great! Thanks for the info. I can test Korean stuff better now. ------- Additional Comments From don@eazel.com 2001-03-09 11:34:03 ---- I'm so sorry, we just couldn't get this into 1.0 in time. We'll fix it soon. ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-09-09 21:10 -------
Changing to "old" target milestone for all bugs laying around with no milestone set.
Reassigning bugs from myself to nautilus-maint@bugzilla.gnome.org.
invalid nautilus is no longer the help browser.
