Description Reinout van Schouwen 2007-08-18 10:31:29 UTC
On my system, the system fonts are set to "Sans" by default, which, as far as I know, is just an alias that maps to DejaVu Sans.

However in Yelp an ugly Times-like font is used as document font when Sans is specified (both when system font is used and not). I need to specifically select DejaVu Sans to get the right font. Instead, Yelp should use the actual (mapped) font as the rest of GNOME does.

Yelp 2.19.90, by the way.

A similar problem was reported by a Debian user with Yelp 2.14.3.

Reinout, are you using a jhbuild sandbox? I've a similar issue in Yelp and Epiphany in jhbuild sandbox; I was sure it was related to Gecko (firefox) installation/configuration/whatever, not directly to GNOME apps.

It's very ugly to read help with a Serif font, not to say that font size appear smaller...
How can we help to debug this, Don ?

I'm using Mandriva Cooker.

I think I see this too, in 2.29.5, but only if the document concerned is of type "info". More specifically, it is now only broken for fixed-width fonts.

1. When viewing "gnome" or "man ls" (type these into the search box),
then yelp correctly uses my specified variable-width font (10 pt Tahoma, Full hinting, no antialiasing). This is fine.

2. When viewing "info ls", then the left-hand pane is fine, but the right hand pane is not. Yelp is trying to use a Fixed-width font, but it does not respect my choice. I can't make it use either the gnome system font, or take any notice of the Yelp->Preferences->Fixed-width setting. As a result, it looks pretty hideous. (In my view, it should use 10 pt Terminus)

P.S. A minor aside: "man ls" shows up in Variable font. This is probably OK, but man-pages often expect to be in a fixed-font - is this ideal?

Is this still an issue with Yelp 3?

I am closing as I assume that this bug is OBSOLETE. Please reopening if that's not the case.
