Description Jovan Spasojevic 2007-08-14 05:36:30 UTC
I am using Evolution sience 2003 i think. I have waitung year for year for for this feature. I mean it wpuld be very nice if Evolution can become a Systray Function. So that can it be minimized totally in the Systray and notify me if there are new Email around. It would be very nice ...i am waiting so long time for this Feature but never had a chance to come into Evolution as plugin or whatever.

Regards,

Jovan S.

GNOME does not have a system tray, but a notification area, which is not intended to be mis-used for this... :-)
sorry.

Hi,

i don't think so.....claws-mail eg. is a gtk2 App too and claws-mail have a
Trayicon Plugin for gnome and a notification plugin. So i cannot believe that the same is not possible with evolution, sorry

yeah, clwas-mail is a gtk app, but not a GNOME app, and it is one example for misusing the notification area.

I vote for this feature :-)
I'm using Evolution in KDE 4 and would like to have minimize to system tray feature.
Comment 8 André Klapper 2008-07-13 10:02:47 UTC
This bug is set to WONTFIX. Adding "me too" comments is quite useful. It is clearly described how you can get this feature, and it is clearly said that GNOME does not even have a system tray.
(Unsubscribing myself.)

Isn't it possible to make this feature universal so regardless of the desktop environment, evolution can minimize itself to system tray(or other such area in current environment) ?
Just curious. J

Disagree. Pidgin, Skype, Opera, Twitux and other appliacations act like this. They use notification area as a system tray. It's very comfortable and it's RIGHT.

Than should Gnome change its mind. Something like system tray is necessary. Where else should be placed icons of applications which I don't want to close, but don't want to have it among opened apps in windows list?

I think more and more people need this feature. I think gnome/evolution team should think about implementing this feature.
We can conduct poll also so that we can decide if its really worth doing. J
