Description Quim Gil 2007-08-05 19:43:12 UTC
https://edit.gnome.jardigrec.eu/en/get-involved/donate text has been copy&pasted directly from http://www.gnome.org/friends/ . There are links to secondary pages in wgo that need to be moved to the new site.

We can't release the site without solving this.

Besides, the page could be formatted in a nicer way. This looks just so amateur that is inviting nobody to donate (although the original page isn't a master of creativity either). Specially the "Donate" buttons need improvement.
Comment 1 Erik Snoeijs 2007-08-07 22:04:40 UTC
Well the text isn't a direct copy&paste, i did change little things, to make the text flow a bit better. But that was because i was unsuccessful in creating a better text from scratch, and running a bit late with the deadline.

I personally think the donation part would feel better if it was more of a 2 step wizard, where you select the corresponding level of donation and are then presented with a way of making that donation. But i am unsure if you have that kind of freedom from within plone. (some freeform javascript&html would be needed i think)

Also i would envision the link to the check would be a self-printing popup, but i guess that would only be a good option on desktops&laptops and not so much on mobile devices. Perhaps it is better to link to a pdf.
I will try and find the HTML version of that page i send you a few months ago, and convert it to pdf and see how it looks.

Hi Erik!

I would say almost anything is feasible... if someone does it. It would be great if you would help improving the page you started.

I can give you editing permissions if you want to go ahead yourself.

pdf & scribus source file, for the check donation page.
Comment 4 Erik Snoeijs 2007-08-10 23:45:12 UTC
Thanks for the offer, i'll gladly try to make it better.

I also made a first draft for the check page. I ended up making it in Scribus (http://www.scribus.net/), which is also the first time i worked with the program, so my workflow is probably a bit messed up.

However included with this message is a tar.gz with a A4 pdf, and a scribus file which contain the page. It's still far from perfect but at least it's a beginning.
Since the new gnome.org site doesn't specify a font, besides sans-serif for as far as i could find, i went with freesans, as the main font for the pdf.

Next to the fact that i'm not too happy with how it turned out, i'm also a bit concerned about how up-to-date it is, and if it shouldn't be improved in terms of content. I didn't chance anything just yet because i first want to finalize the layout. And to do that i need to actually print it, and i don't have a printer at home, so that will have to wait until monday when i'm at work.

So anyway here's the first draft.

Comment 5 Quim Gil 2007-08-12 10:01:05 UTC
Cool, thanks.

The default font for GNOME stuff is DejaVu Sans. Bitstream Vera Sans is also a sure bet.

About the content, my only observations at this point are:

- Do not link belonging to the project to payment: "this unique opportunity to be part of GNOME". By paying you support GNOME b ut you are not necessarily part of. The other way round also works: you can be part of GNOME without having to pay a cent.

- I will forward this to the board of the GNOME Foundation to make sure all the data i.e. contact details is still correct.

In order to get feedback and improvement I recommend you to upload the files separately to http://live.gnome.org/GnomeWeb/WgoGetInvolved and then ask for feedback in gnome-marketing-list. If you are not in the list yet you can subscribe or I can make the call for you there, as you prefer.

Much better if al the feedback about the doc is redirected to this bug report.

Thanks!

new version of the donation page.

I've been busy with work so it took a while, but here's the new version with updated layout, and a slight change in text, as suggested by Quim.

Still need to verify that the text is correct and the data and all. Not sure if i'll have time to do that this week, but i'll try.

The form looks good for the "Pay by check" link. This should go into live.gnome.org (along with the Scribus source that is in your .tar.gz.

As for the rest of the page, I'll be happy if it looks at least as good as http://www.gnome.org/friends/
Comment 8 Murray Cumming 2007-08-28 16:15:36 UTC
I have uploaded the donate.png image:
https://edit.gnome.jardigrec.eu/en/get-involved/donate.png/image

But I'm not sure what URL I should use in the plone markup to use that. The plone editing UI doesn't work for me. Maybe one of you could use this image for the links.

Could someone please do that?
Comment 10 Quim Gil 2007-09-08 17:58:02 UTC
Like this?

http://gnome.jardigrec.eu/en/get-involved/donate

I just changed the first one, and can do the rest if this is what you want to do.

About you not being able to edit. Have you tried going to https://edit.gnome.jardigrec.eu/en/get-involved/donate/edit and then clicking the "HTML" icon in order to edit directly the HTML code?
Comment 11 Murray Cumming 2007-09-09 09:58:09 UTC
Unfortunately, the test site seems to be down right now.

Yes, I can edit HTML. That is how I have been making all my changes so far. But I don't know what markup (or URLs) are used when linking to an image that is hosted by the plone system.
Comment 12 Murray Cumming 2007-10-01 14:30:41 UTC
I have used that image for the other links. The url was just "donate.png":
http://gnome.jardigrec.eu/en/get-involved/donate

There is now some unwanted space after the bullet-points. I wonder if this should be removed from the stylesheet in general on the whole site.

Comment 13 sebn 2009-05-08 20:15:00 UTC
I removed useless line breaks after list items.

There is still some (css-defined) margin when the link is preceded with list items.

Also, shouldn't there be some text (e.g. "Donate") for the links ?

This bug is now obsolete with the new friends of gnome page. Closing.
