GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 463432
translations
Last modified: 2021-05-26 09:58:04 UTC
hi, I'm doing the translation of Dasher to Catalan and I came with this strings: #: ../Data/glade/dashermaemo.glade.h:1 msgid "\n" it's worth translating?? Maybe a comment will be useful :) #: ../Src/DasherCore/DasherButtons.cpp:25 msgid "Right zoom" You mean to make a zoom only in the right? #: ../Src/DasherCore/DasherButtons.cpp:28 msgid "Box non-uniformity" what's this?? #: ../Src/DasherCore/DynamicFilter.cpp:10 #: ../Src/DasherCore/TwoButtonDynamicFilter.cpp:17 msgid "Multiple press time" with this are you trying to say that your press time can be multiple? I don't understand it .. I mean, if it was that the time can be short or long it would be fine it is for more than one input at the same time?? #: ../Src/Gtk2/Preferences.cpp:991 msgid "Auto On Stop" it's some kind of string to say that it will detect that you have stopped automatically?? as Andre Klapper suggests (http://blogs.gnome.org/aklapper/2007/07/25/220s-internationalization-guadec-results/): how to put comments: http://developer.gnome.org/doc/tutorials/gnome-i18n/developer.html#use-comments thanks
some more: while translating dasher I came with this string: #: ../Data/glade/dasher.compose.glade.h:24 #: ../Data/glade/dasher.direct.glade.h:24 #: ../Data/glade/dasher.fullscreen.glade.h:23 #: ../Data/glade/dasher.traditional.glade.h:25 msgid "" "Centre circle\n" "Two box" what's de meaning of "two box" maybe it's "two boxes"? #: ../Src/DasherCore/DynamicFilter.cpp:12 msgid "Enable backoff button" #: ../Src/DasherCore/TwoButtonDynamicFilter.cpp:19 msgid "Enable backoff and start/stop buttons" what's this "backoff" button? thanks!
Besides the string above I would also like to the ones below explained, and please please add a lot more comments for translators #: ../Src/DasherCore/DasherButtons.cpp:29 #, fuzzy msgid "Global keyboard grab" What does this mean, or perhaps more in the point. What does global mean in this context? Oh yes and about the backoff button mentioned above. Besides actually explaining what it is. _If_ "Backoff" is the string on the button then where is that string located so that we can figure out what that is translated into? #: ../Src/Gtk2/Preferences.cpp:989 #, fuzzy msgid "Show Button" This is ambiguous. Is it a button called "Show" or does it mean to show some other button? #: ../Src/Gtk2/dasher_action_speech.cpp:141 #, fuzzy msgid "All" Again highly ambiguous. Depending on what "all" refers to it will need to be translated differently. Please explain it and add comment. #: ../Src/Gtk2/mouse_input.h:57 #, fuzzy msgid "One Dimensional Mouse Input" What does this mean? Besides the one above there also are a some "mode" strings. It would be good to have some comments that explains what the different mode do, that would maybe allow us to make a better description of the mode in the name than if we just translate it directly. If any developers ever see this bug please also have a look at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338770 it is similar to this one and contains some more strings that it would be nice to have commented. Regards Kenneth Nielsen
@phil cowans: PING... 2.20's getting closer. @TLE: thanks for poking.
I've added quite a few comments now, but leaving this open to remind me to go through and review all translatable strings.

Updating with the ones still relevant as of today. > #: ../Data/glade/dasher.compose.glade.h:24 > #: ../Data/glade/dasher.direct.glade.h:24 > #: ../Data/glade/dasher.fullscreen.glade.h:23 > #: ../Data/glade/dasher.traditional.glade.h:25 > msgid "" > "Centre circle\n" > "Two box" > > what's de meaning of "two box" maybe it's "two boxes"? Now it's "Two box" alone, but the issue is still there. > #: ../Src/Gtk2/mouse_input.h:57 > #, fuzzy > msgid "One Dimensional Mouse Input" > > What does this mean? > > Besides the one above there also are a some "mode" strings. GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new enhancement request ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/dasher/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
