GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 461110
String translation issues in OpenOffice.org module
Last modified: 2007-08-23 20:35:43 UTC
"Remove personal info from doc. on save" what does that dot has to do there?
"Warn for external formats" what does that mean? please add a translator comment explaining the sense of that, so it can be translated properly. http://developer.gnome.org/doc/tutorials/gnome-i18n/developer.html#use-comments
dooteo <dooteo@zundan.com> already complaint about some strings to gnome-i18n@gnome.org: 1) "Calc default format:" 'Calc' means calculator (as gnomecalc) or as OOo Calc page (hoja de calculo in Spanish) This is OpenOffice.org Calc => translator comment. 2) "Impress default format:" does it mean about OOo's Impress? Yes. => translator comment. 3) "OpenOffice" OpenOffice does not exist as we know it. It should be 'OpenOffice.org' 4) "Writer default format:" Is the OOo text-processor? Yes. => translator comment. 5) "Drawer" Is it the OOo tool for drawing, or what is meant here? => translator comment. 6) "Run Appliction button" Some typo perhaps: 'Run Application button' i have some more stuff: 7) "Writer default format" - change to "Writer default file format" (same goes for Impress, Writer...) 8) "invalid type for setting %(setting)s in %(np)s" - how do i translate this so i don't break the variables? "%(setting)s" has to remain untranslated, i guess? i don't know python. 9) "Could not create the 'sabayon-apply' process: %s\n The command line used is '%s'\n Child traceback:\n %s" "command line" means the command itself, i guess, and not bash or tcsh? :) perhaps "The command used is" and "Child process traceback" to make this more clear? 10) "There was a recoverable error while applying the user profile from '%s'." is %s the username, or a filename/path? the translation of "from" depends on this information. please add a translator comment. 11) use sometimes use "doc" - does that refer to any kind of "document" (if so, please don't abbreviate) or the microsoft word doc file format? if the latter one, please add a translator comment.
"\n 5\n 10\n 25\n 50" what's that? should it be marked for translation?
From Andre: 3) "OpenOffice" OpenOffice does not exist as we know it. It should be 'OpenOffice.org' Just for information, is it useful to some languages to translate application name?
#: ../admin-tool/lockdown/pessulus.glade.h:41 msgid "Undo Steps:" Is it a number or a step list?
I would definitely like to see these questions answered and the comments included in the po file as well. Soon please.
Created attachment 94215 [details] [review] Patch to fix translation issues Translators: please review this patch. I think it fixes all of your concerns from this bug. I'd like to commit it before Monday Aug 27, which is the string freeze deadline.
federico, looks very good to me and tells me that i at least translated two strings wrong already. ;-) only the "Run Appliction button" typo seems not to be covered by your patch. if you commit, please announce the string changes to gnome-i18n@. thanks.
"Run Appliction button" is already fixed (#400394 and #463177).
Committed to trunk. 2007-08-23 Federico Mena Quintero <federico@novell.com> Fix http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461110 - some strings are hard to translate (especially in the OpenOffice.org module). * admin-tool/lockdown/maindialog.py: * admin-tool/lockdown/pessulus.glade: * lib/protosession.py: * lib/sources/paneldelegate.py: * lib/userdb.py: Use better strings for translation.
