From Krister on the Orca-list:

I looked into this. The Claws-mail FolderView and SummaryView tables each claim STATE_MANAGES_DESCENDANTS which means we're expecting to get active-descendant-changed events when the selection changes. We're not getting these events.

I was able to hack around it for the FolderView by overriding default.py's onSelectionChanged() in a claws-mail script. My hack isn't currently working for the SummaryView. I believe it has to do with the sort order. I'll look at it some more. That said.... Given that Claws-mail is now a GTK+ 2.x app -- and from what Krister has indicated, "almost works" with Orca without special scripting -- I am hoping that the Claws-mail developers are interested in increasing the accessibility of their application so that it "totally works" with Orca. :-) Therefore, I've filed a bug in their bugzilla (http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1269) and am blocking this RFE against that bug.

I will lok at message reading and composing as well and get back with feedback.
Thanks for looking into the problem.

Ok, i looked some more at the message reading functionality in Claws-mail and it looks as the bug in the message summary and folder views also are true in the message reading view. I see text with flat review but not with focus tracking and furthermore i don't seem to see the msg body, just the headers. Do they do some tricks with html rendering or somesuch?
Would be cool if this mailer would work, just as an alternative to TB and Evo, for those who wished it.

It seems that there's no support for caret navigation and text selection when reading received messages. I just filed an RFE against claws-mail for that:

http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1270

If and when action is taken on these claws-mail bugs, I will post updates here.

Ok, have you heard anything from the Claws mail team on the accessibility status of Clawsmail? If i knew the techy side of things i could come up with a meaningful comment, but i currently don't. Well anyways, i look forward to have this bug fixed some time in the future, because Clawsmail looks quite competent.

I have now upgraded my Linux distro to Ubuntu Hardy and with it came v3.3.0 of Claws-mail. Menus and dialogs work very well, i was able to change controls such as checkboxes, radio buttons etc and was able to chose from menus and stuff. The problem with reading the folders, message summary and messages are left i'm afraid. This is too bad i think, because claws-mail seems much more competent than Evolution for exzample. Flat review seems to work in Orca with Claws-mail though. As i said earlier, if i were more techy i could come up with a more meaningful comment to this and maybe even provide solutions, but i'm just a user so if anyone techy would look into this i'd appreciate it.

Hi, Just for additional info i played around with the message composing in Clawsmail, and found that it worked quite nicely, although labels such as "to", "subject" and "cc" wasn't read by Orca. With a little guesswork though i was able to get around this.

The blocking bug was closed as WONTFIX. Here's a message from the person who closed it: "It looks like nobody has been interested in implementing this feature since the end of 2007; in order to clean up the bugzilla, I'm marking this WONTFIX."

Not much we can do unless we want to become claws-mail developers. Sorry. :-(
