GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 45597
Could improve UI when file search has a zillion matches
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
This bug is spun out from bug 42207. Currently, Nautilus will not return more than <n> search results. <n> is the same limit used for all directory counts -- Nautilus will give up loading files after <n> have been reached. The directory view displays an alert telling the user that too many items were found, and in the search results case this alert has been tailored to make sense for search results. That's where we stand now. This could be improved in the future in various ways. Perhaps it makes sense to have the limit for search results be smaller than the limit for directories in general. Perhaps the limit for search results (and maybe directories in general, I guess) should be user-controllable, or take into account the machine's available RAM. Perhaps we should find all matching items but present them in chunks, with some back/forward type navigation to get between chunks. We definitely don't need to do any of these things for 1.0. ------- Additional Comments From don@eazel.com 2001-01-12 15:02:25 ---- Later for this ... ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-09-09 20:51 -------
Changing to "old" target milestone for all bugs laying around with no milestone set.
File search is no longer part of Nautilus, closing this bug.
Sorry for the SPAM. Re-opening the old Search bugs and assigning them to Rebeckas old Eazel account.
