Patch to show unlock dialog in multihead setups (334 bytes, patch)

Description Christoph Anton Mitterer 2007-07-09 11:13:10 UTC
I have 2 monitors with each running as a separate screen under X (i.e. I don't use Xinerama or stuff likt this).
gnome-screensaver should improve it's support for multiscreen environment.
xscreensaver dispalys the selected hack on all screens but with some different values, I mean it doesn't just duplicate the screen.
gnome-screensaver should do at least the same. But it would be nice to be able to configure if there are different screensavers on different screens, or if both are random or only one of them, and so on.

Best wishes,
Chris.

Patch to show unlock dialog in multihead setups

I had to write this patch for the openSUSE package (see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444157) to make it show the unlock dialog in both screens. I guess this should improve multiscreen support, so attaching it here

Hi Rodrigo,
I'd love to see an unlock dialog on both heads (I find that if I have one monitor switched over to another machine it's fate that that's where the mouse is and where the unlock box comes up).

I'm not clear what your one line patch does? It doesn't seem to have a noticeable difference in behaviour for me on Ubuntu. That bugzilla seems to want a login even just to view that bug so I can't really see any more details.

I'm not sure what the patch has to do with the original bug nor do I see how it can help things. As far as the original bug is concerned I don't want to support running the theme with different configuration options on different screens. However, many of the themes will use randomly chosen options by default. Things like the slideshows should already behave like you expect.

If there are further multiscreen bugs please open new reports for them. Thanks.

lol,....
Those who would have liked to see this and the many other mulitscreen related bugs fixed in GNOME...
GNOME is completely borken for multiscreen setups (using compiz makes life a little bit easier, though) and obviously only intended for windows-style end-users...
You should consider to move away... if you depend on those features/bugs being solved.

I've created bug 592673 specifically for the dialog on multiple heads.
