Description Christopher Beland 2001-09-10 00:48:41 UTC
I can only click on desktop icons when you're actually pointing at a
non-clear part of the icon. It should work even if you are pointing
at, for example, the hole between the label and the icon.

Also, double-clicking starts a new window, but only if the icon has
already been highlighted. It should start a new window when double
clicked on, no matter what is highlighted. (Referring to typical
default "username home" and "Ext2 Volume" icons.)

Nautilus PR2 running off a standard Eazel install.
Redhat (6.2) Linux-Athena 8.4.17 (Layered)
Gnome stuff running out of AFS.

Arlo, I'd like your opinion on this one. I recognize this issue as one I've
encountered before on Macintosh.

The second half of this bug has been fixed, and the first part of it applies
to any icon, not just desktop icons.

For a long time now, Andy and I have discussed making "doughnut hole"
situations clickable, but the discussion always regresses when the
subject of an invisible clickable slop factor border enters in.

I think there might be one more duplicate of this, Dave, if you keep
poking at it.

This is definetly a big usability problem. IMO it would be great if
those "doughnut holes" would only let the click through when some
other item is behind it.
It would also be nice if icons would always be prelighted, cause
currently the prelighting flickers a lot when hovering above certain
icons and almost always when hovering from text to picture.
Comment 8 jacob berkman 2002-07-17 17:37:20 UTC
well it's not just holes but "skinny" icons like the wrench or a
pencil or something.

Fixed to use the icon's bounding box in cvs.
