GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 448068
Crash in mpeg2dec, mpeg2_header_slice_start with mpeg-ts
Last modified: 2009-12-20 02:56:06 UTC
Version: 2.17.0 What were you doing when the application crashed? Tried to execute an mpeg-1 file with Totem player, I'm not sure but it's possible this happenend because of lack of a driver or encoder, unfortunately I can't guarantee the statement because I ignore which driver Totem needs to run and if it is or not installed Observations I have Kaffeine and Xine engine working correctly but when I try to open this file with Kaffeine it doesn't work the application does not work there's just the startdisplay (welcome display with the menus)that appears there is maybe a common relation between how Kaffeine and Totem react what ever with Kaffeine there's not a mini break down as with Totem but just a stop a not going on beyond the step of the menu's screen whatever the program doesn't seem to be frozen. What is interesting when I try to open the file with KMPlayer, it does work correctly Best regards, and thank's for your precious work on Linux it's simply full of lots of fun :-) Distribution: openSUSE 10.2 (X86-64) Gnome Release: 2.16.1 2006-11-28 (SUSE) BugBuddy Version: 2.16.0 Memory status: size: 469577728 vsize: 469577728 resident: 12509184 share: 16633856 rss: 29143040 rss_rlim: 388285440 CPU usage: start_time: 1181950658 rtime: 88 utime: 72 stime: 16 cutime:4 cstime: 1 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 100 Backtrace was generated from '/opt/gnome/bin/totem' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib64/libthread_db.so.1". Looks quite similar to bug #164839, but that was fixed in GStreamer 0.8. Marking as a new GStreamer bug.
There's also bug #399342 and bug #335288 with similar symptoms. - does this happen on startup, or only after a few seconds, or only when seeking? - could you make the file, or the beginning of the file, available somewhere please? - what's the output of $ gst-inspect-0.10 flupsdemux | grep Version and $ gst-inspect-0.10 mpeg2dec | grep Version

Answer/question: Do you mean when I run the file? Answer/question: Or when I start the system? Presumed answer: When I run the (MPEG-2 ?) file the Totem player window appears in less than 1 second, then, just as less as an additional second, maybe 0,8 second does the report bug appear. 2) Or only after a few seconds? Or only when seeking? Interpretation: If the manner on how a computer works is beeing well (or maybe also wrong) understanded by myself, I can report this: When Totem displays (nearly instantaneous) I guess it is seeking todetect the mpeg application, to run it, further during the next 0,8 seconds before the bug window appears I suspect during this seeking process happens the bug. 3) Could you make the file, or the beginning of the file, available somewhere please? Answer: I think this is possible but I'm not a Pro in these things, I will need your help on how to do this. Will I have to do a FTP server? 4) What's the output of...? Sorry, didn't understand the developers slang, be more explicit. Interpretation/ answer maybe useful: By rightclicking on the file choosing properties there's displayed under Type: MPEG Video Video Codec: MPEG-1 Audio Codec: MP2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Gruessgott, Tried out more in detail to open the MPEG with following software in this order: 1)KMPlayer 2)Kaffeine 3)Totem 4)VLC 5)Xine 6)SMPlayer 7)gXine 8)Mplayer 1)KMPlayer: Able to run the file but not on the KMPlayer window, there's simoultaneously an Mplayer window appearing running this file, the KMPlayer remaining empty (black display board), on the top of the empty KMPlayer window there is written: „Adresse(URL“-files///.../(Xxx)Red Light District... 2)Kaffeine: By running the file there's the sandclock icon turning a few times then nothing happens. 3)Totem: By running the file, the Totem player window appears, then about 0,8 seconds after there's the report bug window appearing, how ever it's a mini and not a fatal system breakdown. Also adding when I close the report bug window, both, Totem and report bug window disappear without making further aparent problems to the system. 4) VLC: Sandclock icon turning a few times then nothing happens. 5)Xine: for information see attachments 1 to 11 By running the file Xine window appears instantaneously with a warning window, it reports the following engine error: „Xine engine Fehler Input plugin konnte MRL'/media/NERIENMETTR/Boules/(Xxx)Red Light District... nicht oeffnen. Die angegebene Datei oder MRL wurde nicht gefunden. Ueberpruefen sie diese nochmals“ In parallel to this message there is the video display of xine displaying the brand of the player in greeny and violett tonalties instead of the right colours. Notice that kaffeine works correctly with other files than this MPEG. 6)SMPlayer: SMPlayer runs the MPEG file in it's display screen without posing problems. 7)gXine: The sandclock turns a few times after starting the file, then nothing happens. 8)Mplayer By running the file, instantaneously Mplayer window appears with all in blue content instead of the movie and in the task bar appears at the same time „Fatal Error“, Error opening/ Initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. Mplayer interrupted by signal 13 in module: unknown „Mplayer crashed“, „This shouldn't happen“, „It can be a bug in the Mplayer code or in your drivers or in your gcc version“. Finally I close the window with Ctrl Alt Esc with the dead head cursor. FINALLY The most astonishing noticed in this question is that: When opening the MPEG with KMPlayer which works going on positively, by simultaneously opening in parallel to the empty KMP window a Mplayer window displaying correctly/fluently the MPEG... ...there is strange that by opening directly the Mplayer shortcut on my menu without passing firstly by opening with KMPlayer, so by starting Mplayer that I receive the above mentioned „fatal error“. At last the MPEG file has maybe a little and important hic, despite it can be visualized with KMPlayer and SMPlayer, the icon of the mpeg is one of three few files I have whose icon proriety is not to display one image or foto of the it contained media but the icon simply displays a black „filmstripe“. ALSO What I'll try next is to start the file with Windows XP to see what happens. Best regards With Windows Xp on same computer (dualboot) Nero Media Player plays the file as well as the Windows Media Player 11 The Totem player program of my laptop i 586 1Go RAM, Pentium 4, 2.66 Ghz Toshiba with Open SuSE 10.2 is also able to display the MPEG without problems.
Hi, thanks for all the detailed information. However, we're only really interested in information about totem for our purposes, xine/mplayer/kaffeine not so much :) > 3) Could you make the file, or the beginning of the file, available somewhere > please? > > Answer: I think this is possible but I'm not a Pro in these things, I > will need your help on how to do this. Will I have to do a FTP server? Open a terminal window (konsole, gnome-terminal, xterm, etc.), and type $ head --bytes=999k /path/to/movie.mpg > movie-start.mpg (without the '$') that should give you the beginning of the file, which you should then be able to attach to this bug report. > > - what's the output of > > > > $ gst-inspect-0.10 flupsdemux | grep Version > > > > and > > > > $ gst-inspect-0.10 mpeg2dec | grep Version > > > > Sorry, didn't understand the developers slang, be more explicit. > > Interpretation/ answer maybe useful: > Those are command line commands. Thanks! > REPLY: Hello Had difficulties with the syntax of the command; i ignore how to write properly the pathway of the file To attach the part of the MPEG could you write down very exactly and only what I'll have to write :-) in the bash (without including any symbols or else who will not be written in the bash), knowing the path-way of the file which is as follows: system:/media/sdc5/Boules/(Xxx) Red Light District - Elastic Assholes #01 Jane Darling Kathy Anderson Lucy Tiger Erik Everhard Ellen Saint Julie Silver.mpg PS: In the case there is a character like a free space bar at the beginning of the line/syntax or other character which presence is difficult to notice or by writing down the example/this character's presence is difficult to notice please indicate it's presence. For output of > > > > $ gst-inspect-0.10 flupsdemux | grep Version > > > > and > > > > $ gst-inspect-0.10 mpeg2dec | grep Version > > see attached file on top of this post
Hi, thanks for answering the questions so far.
The developers want to have the beginning of the file. Please issue the following command: head --bytes=999k "/media/sdc5/Boules/(Xxx) Red Light District - Elastic Assholes #01 Jane Darling Kathy Anderson Lucy Tiger Erik Everhard Ellen Saint Julie Silver.mpg " > /tmp/movie-start.mpg and upload the file /tmp/movie-start.mpg I hope, it's a good one...
