Description Kirk Bridger 2007-06-14 04:46:17 UTC
When making copies of a disk, it would be great if the user were able to specify a certain number of copies to be made.

For example, I've created a mixed audio CD and want to make 30 copies of it for my friends. This is still legal in some countries. Right now I believe I have to "copy a CD" 30 times, rather than copy a CD once in Brasero and ask that 29 more copies be made at the same time. Once the copying is started Brasero would burn one copy, eject the drive, prompt the user to insert blank media, and once blank media is detected another copy is made. Repeat until number of copies is achieved.

In order to do this in Gnome I have had to install k3b, as I could not find a way to do this using any native Gnome application (Brasero, Gnome Baker, Nautilus, Serpentine) that can make multiple copies of a disk when copying.

Ability to make multiple copies of a disk (or from CD/DVD image) is very important for CD/DVD burning application. I'm a lector (I'm teaching Lithuanian teachers how to use free software, like GNU/Linux, OpenOffice.org, etc. in schools) and I need to burn (and test) about 25 CD's with GNU/Linux distro every week.
Now I must use shell script for this task, which executes cdrecord, eject, mount and md5sum commands, Brasero can do all these operations, but only for one CD, if I wanna burn another CD I must repeat all image choosing operations again :(
Nautilus-CD-burner asks after writing "Do you wanna burn another copy" ? I think brasero also can do this - it's very easy to implement - just one dialog box :)

Btw, isn't this bug a duplicate of bug #383444 ?
Comment 3 Kirk Bridger 2007-06-14 20:38:22 UTC
Yes, that looks to be a similar bug.

I wouldn't suggest making the user wait until a burn is over to ask if they want to burn again. I found it very useful in k3b to specify 30 copies, and then keep feeding it until it was done - I didn't need to keep track of how many copies were done and how many were left. The user should be able to specify up front how many copies.
