GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 447319
part of suspend process happens when permission is denied
Last modified: 2009-03-04 14:38:32 UTC
Please describe the problem: Originally filed as https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=243969 When permission to suspend is denied (which is a separate bug that I filed at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=243970), part of the suspend process runs, messing things up pretty badly (disconnecting from the network, and in my case also making the keyboard completely non-functional, which means I have to hard-power-off). Steps to reproduce: 1. Press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go to tty1 2. Press laptop suspend key (Fn-F4) Actual results: Machine doesn't suspend, but I hear a short horn noise indicating permission denied, and the keyboard stops working, and I get the following in the syslog: Jun 13 04:48:08 ridley gnome-power-manager: (dbaron) Suspending computer because the suspend button has been pressed Jun 13 04:48:09 ridley gnome-power-manager: (dbaron) Permission denied: Not in active session code='32' quark='g-exec-error-quark' Jun 13 04:48:09 ridley gnome-power-manager: (dbaron) Resuming computer Jun 13 04:48:10 ridley NetworkManager: <info> Going to sleep. Jun 13 04:48:10 ridley gnome-power-manager: (dbaron) suspend failed Jun 13 04:48:10 ridley dhclient: DHCPRELEASE on eth1 to 192.168.204.1 port 67 Jun 13 04:48:10 ridley dhclient: send_packet: Network is unreachable Jun 13 04:48:10 ridley dhclient: send_packet: please consult README file regarding broadcast address. Expected results: If permission to suspend was denied, machine shouldn't do part of the suspend process. Does this happen every time? Tried once. Other information:
Created attachment 91163 [details] syslog suspend problem
Using Ubuntu Feisty on my iBook G4, I receive a dialogue box from gnome power manager telling me that my laptop failed to suspend. I reviewed the syslog to help identify the problem. There are several suspicious log entries that catch my eye: Jul 3 22:57:21 gene-apple-laptop kernel: [ 243.465238] ohci1394 does not fully support suspend and resume yet Jul 4 16:11:16 gene-apple-laptop gnome-power-manager: (gene) An unknown error occured code='32' quark='g-exec-error-quark' Jul 4 16:11:17 gene-apple-laptop gnome-power-manager: (gene) suspend failed Jul 4 16:11:18 gene-apple-laptop avahi-autoipd(eth1)[5436]: SIOCSIFFLAGS failed: Permission denied Since I'm a newbie, my syslog is attached to help fix the problem. Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use. By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME. Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
