Description Sebastien Bacher 2007-05-22 13:20:26 UTC
The bug has been opened on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/110243

"Binary package hint: evolution

I'm using the standard 2.10.1 version of Evolution on Feisty (7.04) which I've just loaded from scratch having attempted to update from Edgy but found a few things were strange.

I exported my Calendar from Outlook 2000 in CSV format and I can read the file OK in Open Office.

When I Import in Evolution the Calendar is imported as Contacts which isn't quite what I want.

What's up?

An Outlook 2000 example calendar file in .csv format

Sorry its taken me a while to get back to you. I've created a 1 entry calendar on Outlook which effectively is still created as a contact in Evolution. I've attached my Outlook .csv file. I hope it will help. Remember this is Outlook 2000 so it maybe just that Outlook has moved on and Evolution is compatible with an updated version."

please export to vcf or ics. i don't think that csv is supported.

This bug also exists in version 2.12.0 (Ubuntu Gutsy).

To reproduce it, I have a CSV file of appointments (for an example, see http://sharks.nhl.com/ext/2007-08_Sharks_Schedule.csv) and I click File -> Import, choose a file, I select the CSV file I just downloaded, and when given a location to import to, I only get a list of contact locations, not calendar locations.

I do not remember 100%, but I believe earlier versions had the ability to import/export as CSV. This feature is important to maintain compatibility with other calendaring apps, or to use a "lowest-common denominator" in distributing events.

Bumping version to a stable release.

Marking this as an enhancement since we don't have a CSV importer for calendar data yet. I'm going to clarify this in the import options.

Evolution 3.2.2 Importer offers
* Evolution CSV or Tab
* Mozilla CSV or Tab
* Outlook CSV or Tab
but then only offers address books.

I didn't see any hint in the UI. It didn't even say that it displayed only addressbooks - if all books and calendars are the default ones you just see "Personal" as the option and don't even know why it failed.

I think I fixed it in an importer rewrite I was working on at the time and then shelved.

Really, CSV as a file format just needs to die. It's ambiguous and highly application-specific. It doesn't even have a standard way to escape commas or span multiple lines per record.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
