GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 436641
Flat review does not refresh itself in some cases
Last modified: 2018-02-08 12:24:16 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have noticed this problem E. G. in brasero and gajim j=jabber. Orca shows outdated Information to the user. E. G. in gajim there is a new message, but it is not viewable via flat review. In brasero the cd-burning is finished but orca tells write in progress etc. Steps to reproduce: 1. open brasero 2. create a data dvd projekt and start buruning 3. try to navigate with f. review. Or Install gajim and try to read incoming messages! Bo Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
This is the current design for flat review, so I'm marking this as an enhancement request. I think we also need more discussion about why flat review is apparently becoming the primary operating mode for users instead of focus tracking mode. Maybe we can do that as part of the upcoming chats on #orca.
See also the semi-related bug #400732.

Another place where flat review is necessary is in the gnome-terminal. I hae run into numerous situations where the status line in a terminal app or some other applications for that matter, will update at regular intervals and focus tracking is not possible to track this. I would be most interested in making this to be more dynamic. However, if it was designed this way, it might be tough to re-work it so it could update automatically. One idea I have been thinking about is to keep the flat review pointer in place but whenever a key is pressed to read the current review line or word or so, cause flat review to be updated but not move the pointer back to the application cursor. This might achieve the results desired in this bug report.

Hi, so do I understnad correctly that the content of flat review is constructed the moment I start flat-reviewing and not updated afterwards. So the problem in elinks arises, because when one changes pages in a webpage without links, the cursor isn't moved, and so the existing flat-review "session" lives on. Regards, Rudolf
This should have been fixed as part of the flat review rewrite.
