Description Øystein Gisnås 2007-05-06 00:13:26 UTC
Please describe the problem:
From: Csillag Kristof <fenwick@freemail.hu>

Subject: evolution: sometimes loses mail when receiving from local mbox
Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2006 00:13:05 +0200

Package: evolution
Version: 2.6.3-1
Severity: important

This is something that have occured several times now.
For the first few times, I thought that I must be mistaken,
but now I am sure:

When I press the send/receive button in Evolution, the messages
fetched from the local /var/mail/<username> mbox file sometimes
disappear altogether.

I am not sure how to reproduce this, but i am pretty sure it
DOES happen.

I usually have a terminal running "watch from", so I can see the mails
waiting in my mbox. When I press the receive button in evolution,
it takes the mails, and begins to sort them out. (I have a long list
of rules, so it takes a while to do so.)

But sometimes, maybe once or twice in a month, when I press the button,
the messages just disappear from the mbox, but they are not delivered.

I am sure they disappear, because I can track it the "watch from"
terminal. I am sure they are not delivered, because the status/progress
window does not come up. (And (of course) the mails end up missing.)

Last time I have looked up some of the mail addresses (I remembered
seeing in the "watch from" terminal) in the exim log; it's clear that
they got delivered into my system mailbox. But it's also clear that
evolution does not have them. (I grepped through not just my inbox, but
my whole evolution dir, and the mail is definitly not there.)

   * * *

What the hell is happening? How can I help you debugging this?
(If this goes on, I will have to stop using evolution, because
I can not afford losing potentially important mail.)

Best wishes:

	Kristof Csillag

Does this still happen with 2.22 or 2.24?
If not, it's probably OBSOLETE.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug; however, closing due to lack of
response of the reporter, sorry. if you still see this issue with a current
release of evolution (2.26.1.1 or later), please reopen. thanks in advance.
