GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 434431
A bottom green line is recorded when area selection is used
Last modified: 2018-07-02 10:51:33 UTC
This a report forwarded from Debian BTS. Original report can be found here: http://bugs.debian.org/415890 Reporter says: ********** Using the option "Select Area to Record" is used, the resulting movie constantly shows a green horizontal line at the bottom of the movie. This line is visible with Kaffeine, KMPlayer and VLC. A screen movie taken by a friend with area selection shows the same green line. Therefore I conclude that the problem is within Istanbul and not in the player software. ********** I can confirm the same behaviour here. The orizzontal line is really thin, placed at the bottom of the screencasted area. Feel free to Cc: 415890@bugs.debian.org when replying.
This is probably due to the width and height not being a multiple of 8. Non gstreamer players usually don't handle them well. However I do have plans to handle these odd sizes selected by adding a black border.
istanbul is not under active development anymore and has not seen code changes for eight years. Its codebase has been archived: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/istanbul/commits/master See https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/stable/screen-shot-record.html for screencast video options that are available in GNOME 3. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is deprecated) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
