GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 43089
Extended Metadata-Based Searching
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Searching would be much more powerful if, rather than just typing in a given string to search for filenames, there were a search interface with the following attributes: 1. "typed" - eg, the user specifies what kind of file he/she is looking for 2. Metadata search boxes - eg, Artist, Title, Album, Year This obviously best translates to MP3s, simply because they have the most built-in metadata. But it could work for spreadsheets, dia files, abiword/openoffice documents, etc. ------- Additional Comments From rebecka@eazel.com 2000-09-21 16:33:13 ---- This bug should really be split up into creating a design plan for these, and implementing them. I won't give this bug hours as is. ------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2000-10-16 19:00:29 ---- Batch-assigning QA ownership of Search Interface bugs to Josh Barrow. ------- Additional Comments From don@eazel.com 2000-12-18 17:45:39 ---- OK, if we really want to do this, can someone break up the bug as rebecca suggests or add some more scope to it? Until then it stays out in the furthest reaches of space and time ... ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-09-09 20:39 ------- The original reporter (rpmuldoon@students.wisc.edu) of this bug does not have an account here. Reassigning to the exporter, unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org.
Changing to "old" target milestone for all bugs laying around with no milestone set.
Given the current search status, it's unlikely this will be fixed for the foreseeable future, but it's a fine idea. Moving off to "future" and "enhancement".
