GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 427382
variable auto column width [esp on import]?
Last modified: 2010-06-24 08:09:39 UTC
may I highly suggest that when you import a [csv] file, you set the width of each column so that I neither get **** nor too much column spacing? This should be fairly easy to do. It is really a pain to have to go through 20 columns and do this by hand. sincerely, /ivo welch
"It is really a pain to have to go through 20 columns and do this by hand." ?? You should be able to just select all those columns and then choose Format->Column->"Auto fit selection"
Personally I would not like to have this autofit happen automatically. What if some of my columns contain the odd very long entry? Then I would need to set those columns to a much narrower width which takes longer than the above autofit. (I could see theidea that the configurable text import has a checkbox on the formatting page to auto size the columns.)
hi andreas---you are right. I would also add column width to the right click menu when I highlight columns. (I recall that oocalc has this.) regards, /iaw
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
