GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 415770
Reply style like Outlook
Last modified: 2017-07-05 08:41:40 UTC
I know its a crap option but I know some people want replys to be inlined withouth being prefixed like Outlook does it.
Created attachment 84183 [details] [review] Trivial patch Not tested at all but its really trivial!
So apparently it compiles and even works (user reported that it does at least)
oh yeah, i want that crap too, baby!
I think too many request. It is fine to have such option. Im taking for 2.11.3
Great new feature! For this to be really useful though, there should be some kind of keyboard-combination mapped to using this feature (shift-r, alt-r?). I think in most cases, users want to reply normally most of the time but "Outlook style" when replying to emails from Outlook. Maybe as well, this should be a setting per account which should be the default. I have two accounts in Evolution, one private where I reply to emails normally and one Exchange-account where I would like to reply to emails "Outlook style".
Thomas, you can set the default reply style and C+R would do that. I dont think an account specific option is nice and feasible also.
Srinivasa: Just being able to set this as a default reply isn't good enough in my opinion. My situation is that 75% of the emails I reply to is written from Outlook clients. In these situations, it is preferred to use the same style when you reply. In the other 25% I would like to to "normal" in-line replies. To do this now I would have to change my options between these different replies. I know C+r today maps to a reply but if there was another key-mapping for Outlook-replies the problem would have been solved. I think this would greatly enhance Evolution to be serious alternative for Exchange-users!
Comment #7 is very important. Working with different mailing lists one has to switch the reply style manually, currently this is only possible by changing the global preferences. Wen need some quick option to switch the style when replying. Then it would be important to be able to configure both templates to choose the headers, for quoted and inline replies, like KMail provides. Then _Replies and Forwards_ -> _Reply style_ and _Forward style_ "Quoted" are inconsistent as _Forward Style_: Quoted is a mix of adding > quoting and inline header. Which of those should we file as new ticket?
