GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 413107
Delay when opening the calendar for the first time in the session
Last modified: 2020-11-06 20:20:00 UTC
Please describe the problem: The first time you click the clock to show the calendar there is a noticeable delay. After the first 'opening' it shows the calendar pretty quickly. Steps to reproduce: 1. Logout 2. Login 3. Click the clock Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? First time each login, yes. Other information: Ubuntu bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/87796
I can confirm this, it takes several seconds until the calendar-box is getting opened. The second time it's opened it works fast. Freshly installed Ubuntu Feisty
It looks like no one had a look into this bug so far, but i can still confirm it with GNOME 2.20 using Ubuntu Gutsy here. Depending on the pc it takes around 5 seconds on slow PCs to show the calendar after a click...
hajo, this is definitely NOT a 2.20 blocker. please don't use the "gnome target" field for this, thanks. :-)
I wonder if there is any relation between this bug and #515948
the speed seems to be correct in GNOME 2.22, the ubuntu bug has been closed, maybe you want to do the same with this one
I'm keeping the bug open as a reminder to rework the way we query the eds calendars, which should speed up things a bit again.

Running Clock 2.30.2 on Ubuntu 10.04, I can confirm that opening the calendar is still slow (several seconds)
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years. If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/ Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
