GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 413002
printing job does not start with all printers
Last modified: 2009-07-14 21:02:21 UTC
Please describe the problem: Whenever I start a print job, it won't start and in the printer's list I see its status as "job-stopped". Restarting the print job does not work. Printing test pages is just fine with all printers. The same printers behave nicely if, for example, I open the same PDF document with kpdf and choose to print. I'm getting this error mainly with evince, but also other gnome applications (eog) Steps to reproduce: 1. open a gnome application that supports printing (evince, eog,..) 2. print document/image 3. the document won't get printed 4. in the printer's joblist it will appear as Stopped:job-stopped Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? yes Other information:
Do you get any output on stdout if you run the app from a terminal?

Hello, I am experiencing a similar problem with epiphany (and other applications using the new GtkPrintOperation, like evolution, eog and evince). It seems to only happen when I change the ``Density'' option to something other than the default. I did a `tail -f /var/log/cups/error_log' and this is what I got when trying to print from epiphany 2.18.1 on the new Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (Edgy with epiphany 2.16.x worked) with Density set to 1.500: E [07/May/2007:11:45:04 +0200] [Job 146] Gutenprint: Density must be between 0.100000 and 8.000000 (is 0.001500) E [07/May/2007:11:45:04 +0200] [Job 146] Gutenprint: options failed to verify. E [07/May/2007:11:45:04 +0200] PID 8350 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertogutenprint.5.0) stopped with status 1! In ~/.gnome2/epiphany/print-settings.ini, cups-StpDensity and similar options get set to X.XXX, in Epiphany 2.16.x they got set to XXXX, for example 1.500 instead of 1500. When I hand-edit this file and change all values from X.XXX to XXXX, it works.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use. By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME. Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
