Description Loïc Minier 2007-02-08 21:41:08 UTC
Hi,

gnome-power-manager has IMO a translation error:
msgid "_Suspend"
msgstr "_Mise en veille prolongée"

msgid "Hi_bernate"
msgstr "_Hibernation"

=> Suspend is akin to Sleep, i.e. suspend-to-disk while Hibernate is suspend-to-disk, that's the long sleep.

IMO this got mixed up, you might want:
Suspend => Mise en veille, or simply Veille

and:
Hibernate => Mise en veille prolongée

I've discussed this with another native french speaker (Sébastien Bacher), and he was of the same opinion.

This confusion is repeated in all strings mentionning suspend.

Bye,

See http://wiki.traduc.org/gnomefr/NomenclatureGestionEnergie
You can discuss this matter on the gnomefr ML (http://www.traduc.org/mailman/listinfo/gnomefr)

For information, I've recently changed these strings (before I saw your bug report)

msgid "_Suspend"
msgstr "_Mise en veille prolongée"

msgid "Hi_bernate"
msgstr "_Hibernation"

to

msgid "_Suspend"
msgstr "_Mettre en veille"

msgid "Hi_bernate"
msgstr "_Hiberner"

so the new stings are nearer your wishes.

I saw you've subscribed to the french ml, see you soon to talk about other changes :)

Way better indeed!

It's still slightly confusing as -- for me at least -- "Mettre en veille" recalls the "Mettre en veille prolongée" memory, and "Hiberner" does not ring a bell with prior experiences, so would I discover the strings now, I would probably not know which one I should use, but I wouldn't be inclined to pick the wrong one like I did before your changes.

I think the initial problem is fixed (confusion).
Now, we can discuss on:
http://wiki.traduc.org/gnomefr/NomenclatureGestionEnergie
to enhance the terms used.

Fixed in GNOME 2.18 and trunk.
