Also seeing a lot of crashes in gparted on the PartedMagic CD 1.2 which ever gparted that has, 3.3.5 IIRC.

It seems I get to do one operation and then, possibly during refreshing the devices , poof, no more gparted.

Luckily it seems to be happening at a non critical point. Since I have this just about every time I use it but without losing any changes or having any damage done to the partitions.

That's lucky but it is pretty unacceptable in a critical tool like this. This has put a big dent in the high degree of confidence I previously had in gparted.

Comment 5 Laurent de Trogoff 2007-03-03 05:35:26 UTC
gg, we are not responsible for bugs in other livecd versions than the official one. So far i *didn't* get GParted crashing on the livecd i built, except for beta version of course. In fact it crashes sometimes when compiling GParted with parted > 1.7.1 (= parted-1.8 and higher). We dont know why this happens, so i build GParted on official livecd using parted-1.7.1.
Anyway your comment has nothing to do with the subject.
Comment 6 gg 2007-03-03 07:28:39 UTC
I was not saying you were responcible for bugs on the partedmagic CD but you were calling for info on this bug and I thought some more info may help.

Since you seem to be aware that there is a problem with gparted on current parted , I'm wasting my time.

Is there a bug open on that issue?
Comment 7 Laurent de Trogoff 2007-03-03 07:45:31 UTC
I kept in touch parted -team about that point. But this *was* not really easy to describe, since it happened from *my* livecd based on gentoo.
Like you pointed it out, it become interesting if it also happens from within other livecd !
So i guess you could file a bug.
the parted-team wonder if it could come from libparted...
Comment 8 gg 2007-03-03 07:58:00 UTC
My main system is gentoo also and I have no issues with gparted installed there.

Comment 9 Laurent de Trogoff 2007-03-03 08:26:05 UTC
gg, would you be kind enough to read what i wrote, please ?
We are talkin about livecd, and NOT gentoo installation !

I neither have any problem with parted 1.8.2 on gentoo installation. this comes only on livecd.
that's the reason why i think there is something done by parted during the scanning.... but i dunno what, or how come.
Comment 10 gg 2007-03-03 08:52:38 UTC
would *you* be kind enough to read what i wrote! I am trying to give you some extra information on a bug which you yourself admit you do not understand.

when you have a bit more experience you may realise the value input from different installations in pinpointing bugs like this.

your pointless, off-hand comments to all bugs seems to indicate that you'd rather work alone, so good luck.
Comment 11 Laurent de Trogoff 2007-03-03 10:23:00 UTC
Come one gg, take it easy.
What is really true is that i am very new to this kind of work.
Since i even dont know who you are, how do you want i react ? We are talking about livecd and you answer with install distro...
Can't you understand it makes me a bit disappointed ?

BTW i must add that like you pointed it out, i am working alone on this livecd project, and it is very hard !
And if i seem to have off-hand on bugs this only come because the Main developer is away and can't do anything from last two months to .... one day maybe.

So, if you want to give help, please , note your are welcome. And i am sorry if i hurt you.
