Please describe the problem:
Hello,

I am forwarding a bug report on behalf of Martin G Miller,
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/73835
I can confirm that this behaviour does indeed happen to myself also.

Original Bug Report:

Since upgrading from Dapper to Edgy, 32 bit. I have noticed Evolution is very slow to display images in emails. The more graphically rich the email is, the longer it takes to display. Ads are the worst offender here. The worst part is that while it is trying to download the images for display the program becomes almost unresponsive to further mouse clicks. You cannot click another email to switch to it without experiencing very long delays of up to 15 -20 seconds. You can't click the button to delete the email that is taking all the time because the button is grayed out till it finishes loading the email. This behavior was not present in Dapper.

Thanks Alex.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Select 'Always Load Images from the Internet' from the Loading Images section of the Edit->Preferences->Mail Preferences->HTML Preferences menu.
2. Select an email with image file attachments.

Actual results:
Slow loading of the images, no matter what the source. (15-20 seconds response time).

Expected results:
Ability to delete email whilst loading and/or stop images loading upon request.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Slow Rendering E-mail

Bump. This is affecting Evo 2.9.3 in Ubuntu Feisty. I've attached an e-mail that triggers the problem in Evo, but renders in less than a second in Firefox.

Attached email from comment #1 is rendering slow even with disabled loading images (on status bar if "Formatting message"), and I think it's same as bug #435620. With simple HTML (no tables) and couple of images in it, it works fine with almost no leg, at least for me on current version (See my comment 3 at bug #334444.)

If we don't load images, attached mail works smoothly. But if we download images, it take at least 8-10 seconds. I tried in 2.23.6.

What is your option in Edit->Preferences->Mail Preferences->HTML Messages -> Loading images? I have there "always load..." and it works just fine, thus I guess you've there "... from contacts" and you've some autocompletion address book which is quite slow for this. There is some optimization done already, so it doesn't look for every single image if sender is or isn't in the address book, so I guess not much to do with this.

Can you check to change the option for the Load images option? Be sure you delete your cache, to not have images downloaded from the cache.

the ubuntu bug submitter consider the issue fixed in GNOME 2.24 closing the bug
