GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 372832
text-formating get lost
Last modified: 2008-02-26 20:46:33 UTC
Please describe the problem: Every text-formating get lost, after you write something behind formatted text. Steps to reproduce: How to reproduce this bug: 1. Open a note (new or old) 2a. Choose a format (like bold, big text etc) 2b. Write a text and then mark it and choose a format 3. edit this current or next line (e.g. continue writing) Actual results: The metadata/format got lost Expected results: The format don't got lost. Does this happen every time? yes Other information: something maybe related: you write a link-text (MyLink, /home/user/ or www.gnome.org) tomboy will not be automatically create link from this string, until you push return Bugreport in Ubuntu: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/tomboy/+bug/51417 I have this problem with official packages from Ubuntu also with self-compiled sources 0.3.5, 4.0, 4.1
I can confirm on .4.1. After selecting a secondary style on selected text, newly typed next will have no formatting.
(adding version information, though it's not *that* important) :-)
Keywan (from the mailing list) reports that this occurs in 0.5.2 as well.
Still happens with version .5.1 and .5.2 AHH, I am so stupid. forgot to post this. This comment was open in my browser the whole day :D
This seems to be the same or similar to the problem I had, reported here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351714 I found the problem disappeared with the 0.5.3 update.
This problem stil appear with 0.5.4. Please, could somebody spend love to tomboy at this issue? It makes tomboy really unusable for me. I can use tomboy just as a plaintext sticky note It is really the same es 351714, but it didn't disapeared. I also moved my ~/.tomboy and started with a fresh one and have the same problem in the default/first run "start here" note. I copied my ~/.tomboy to another computer dapper and tomboy (the original one from dapper) and didn't have the problem their. I have a PowerPC with Ubuntu Edgy and built tomboy from source. Maybe the problem is related on PowerPC plattform. I ask a friend with Ubuntu/PowerPC to test this bug. If I can help anybody somehow (even with shell access) let me know.
Update: I spoke too soon (#5 above) about the problem being gone with 0.5.3. When I first upgraded to 0.5.3 it seemed to be okay, but the next time I rebooted, the problem is back. Starting off with a brand new set of notes solves the problem, but that's not an option for me as I have hundreds of Tomboy notes.

same procedure as every release : this bug still appear in 0.5.5 Can I halb you somehow to fix this bug. I just want to point out, that tomboy is with this bug just unusable. I can't use my favorite and most useful application :( Maybe the priority of this bug is too low?
I meant help, not halb (german for half). No idea why I wrote halb. ...
Created attachment 81557 [details] [review] Patch to fix the problem This patch adds any growable tags from the previous character into the active_tags list whenever the insertion mark is changed.
Seems to work...unless I attempt to type in some text after a bugzilla link.
Is this patch integrated in version 0.6.0 ? I have still the problem. How can I apply the patch and test it. As a reminder: Tomboy is for me useless since version 0.3.5 when this bug appears. Tomboy was before my favorite app', now I nearly never use it. Can I help you somehow? Do you need shell access on my machine to reproduce it or free brownies at the next GUADEC?
I experience the very same problem using Tomboy 0.6.1 on Ubuntu Feisty with a freshly created note. Steps to reproduce : Create a new note, type some text, format it and then delete a character by hitting either backspace or delete, the text should lose its format.

May be the source of the problem, though we can not be 100% sure.
Oh, thank you chardon. I removed the reminder plugin and all problems I described dissapeared. Halleluja :D
The reminder plugin is quite unmaintained (i'm the original author). Someone should fix it :)
Resolving as NOTGNOME since it was caused by an external plugin. Hopefully someone will update this excellent plugin!
