GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 370958
Should give progress information when loading a file
Last modified: 2008-12-30 16:13:31 UTC
When you load a document from a remote location it usually takes a lot of time to reach you. Meanwhile evince just shows a page saying "Loading", giving the feeling that it hung. We should display a progress bar, instead.
It would also be nice if it wouldn't shout "Loading..." at me in gigantic bold black letters on a white ground. A shade of gray and a somewhat smaller font size would be a lot more gentle. I wouldn't mind then if the trailing dots would animate subtly to indicate that the application is busy loading the document...
This also happen when I plays my presentation/slideshow/Beamer. If I attempt to jump over multiple pages (by following hyperlinks inside the document) or switch slides too fast, Evince leaves me a white screen saying "Loading...", which is very annoying for breaking the continuousity of the presentation. It is advisable to show "Loading..." in the corner of the screen with a smaller font size, so that my audience will not notice that. A shade of gray is okay. And it will be better if this "Loading..." message is configurable.
+1 about giving more information than the "loading" message.
