Description Mike Pedersen 2006-10-27 20:27:27 UTC
Currently, if the status, atachement, or flagged fields are checked, we speak and braille, the label, role, and state of these check boxes. I don't see why evolution uses check boxes to show this information. I'd like to replace this information with the word "read" for the status check box if it is checked, "atachement" if the atachement is checked and something for the flagged if we can tell what the flag is. This will make the message list much less verbose and more pleasant to use.

I agree.

the current verbiage makes browsing the message list much less efficient than it could be. At present, because these checkboxes are always spoken, along with their statuses, it is impossible to quickly skim the list

Patch to hopefully implement the enhancement.

Apart from "read" sounding like "reed" rather than "red", it
seems to be fine.

Changes checked into CVS HEAD. Mike and Al, could you test it
please and let me know if it works for you. Thanks.
Comment 4 Mike Pedersen 2006-11-01 18:26:13 UTC
This is much better. The only question is: Should we be doing anything similar with the "flagged" checkbox? I don't ever see it checked so I don't know how much it is actually used.
thanks
Comment 5 Rich Burridge 2006-11-01 18:50:27 UTC
I suggest we open another enhancement request when we understand
exactly what the flagged checkbox means. Note that I've never
seen mail message headers with this column checked, so by default
it's never going to be spoken. And if it is checked, then it'll
speak the header and the full checkbox status. Not really a big
deal.

Closing this bug as FIXED. Thanks for testing it.

I believe the flagged state is set by the user. I use it, for example, to flag e-mails in my inbox to say "HEY, once you're through your early morning delete-your-spam-pass, make sure you answer this message."
