GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 365174
Renaming certain Launcher icons to a space " " replaces the icon name to garbage.
Last modified: 2009-09-24 10:41:07 UTC
Please describe the problem: If I drag certain applications from the Applications panel menu either onto my desktop or another folder, it will create another launcher icon that I can use. No problem. If I rename the icon, also no problem. But, if I rename the icon to consist of only one space " ", then it has a chance of inserting garbage into the icon. Steps to reproduce: On Ubuntu Edgy, I can reproduce the bug with the "Epiphany Web Browser" and "Gaim Instant Messenger" icons, but most I can't. 1. Open the Application panel menu. 2. Drag an application to the desktop. For optimum results (*cough*), drag one of the aformentioned applications to the desktop. 3. Rename the icon to a space. (context-menu -> Rename... -> type a space " ") Actual results: If you are lucky (*cough*), you will see a whole lot of XML-like garbage inserted into the icon's title, rather than the space. Expected results: I expect the icon to basically have a blank title. Does this happen every time? This bug can only be reproduced with certain icons ("Epiphany Web Browser" and "Gaim Instant Messenger" work for me), but it can always be reproduced consistently for me. Other information: The following is what gets inserted into the Epiphany icon when I rename it to a space " ". I am totally sure that I fixed this issue at some point, but I can't figure out when -- sorry for that. Anyway, it works as expected in Nautilus 2.28. Closing.
