Description Sébastien Bertrand 2006-10-22 22:37:32 UTC
It could be cool to have the possibility of an advanced tag editing, like Ex-falso and Quod Libet.

With advanced tag editing, we could see every field of a files. And we could also have multiple artists for a soong.

I see several ways of extending Banshee's tag editing capabilities.
- Extend 'Edit song metadata' dialog to support more advanced features like adding multiple performers, modifying cover art, etc.
- Adding a new "view" (just like Podcasts and Radio do). Music files are either imported from music library by performing a search, or imported directly from the file system. Batch processing, tags-from-name conversions are welcome:) In this case it is possible to use (extended?) dialog from previous stage.

As for me, I consider advanced metadata editing capabilities for Banshee as a must.

Can you check out the new feature/video here?

If possible, check out the code too. I'd say this should be fixed.

reopen if this doesn't address what you're looking for.
Comment 5 Sébastien Bertrand 2007-08-27 13:02:15 UTC
I search for the ability to manage every tag of a file (even custom tag) and the ability to manage multiple tag (for example 2 or more artists…).

Quod Libet and Ex Falso give these features.
Comment 6 Aaron Bockover 2007-08-27 15:35:56 UTC
I do not foresee adding super-advanced tag editing features to Banshee as I feel they are very fringe and most users will never take advantage of them. Some things will probably be added (2 or more artists), but custom tags and other things will not. We may add the ability to open the tags in an external editor. The main thing is not to clutter the interface, add features 90% of users will never use, or hinder the current usability of the editor.
Comment 7 Benjamín Valero Espinosa 2008-05-26 14:28:58 UTC
I'd like to be able at least to edit the Comment field. Anyway, it is just another column in the Track table.
Comment 8 Bertrand Lorentz 2009-01-04 10:32:10 UTC
Support for the Comment field is now available, and the track editor can easily be extended for other fields.
See http://abock.org/2008/11/17/a-couple-of-ideas-for-contributing-to-banshee/

Support for multiple values in tag is bug #487281.

So closing.
