GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 362809
Lock dialog does not show clock
Last modified: 2010-09-19 13:22:47 UTC
When the screensaver is active and the lock dialog appears, I have no possibility to read the time. In my room, the only clock I have, is the one on my computer. When the screensaver is active, I have to unlock it, look at the clock in the gnome panel and lock it again. Under xscreensaver, the clock was visible in the lock dialog, so I just had to move the mouse in order to see the current time.
Would a screensaver theme that shows a nice big clock work?
Basically, that would work, but I *love* to have some really great screensavers that don't show clocks.
I would really love having a clock in the unlock dialog too. The only clock in my office is the one from the computer and I often unlock my screen just to see the time (actually I lose some time because since I unlocked the screen I often read my mail at the same time and procrastinate which is bad :/)
Shouldn't STATUS of this bug be set to CONFIRMED ? It seems, that several people (including me) agree, that it would be nice if screensaver's unlock dialog would have a clock..
Yeah still think that this doesn't really belong on the dialog. If someone wants to write a "clock" screensaver that would be cool - please open a new bug for that.
Does a screensaver that shows a clock still put a monitor in power-saving mode? Will the screen still blank after a while? I've been looking around and it seems like there is quite a bit of interest in this feature: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/item/15715/ I get that William doesn't think that it belongs in the dialog, but as long as there is an option to disable it, wouldn't everyone be happy? Besides, the dialog is exactly the place where it belongs, since displaying the time is a feature completely independent of your choice of visuals for your screensaver. It's closer in information content to "hostname" than to "fireworks". Would you consider reopening this one?
Looks like there may be a patch: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499165 but this one remains "unconfirmed". Any action pending on that? Cheers.
