GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 362657
Changing "Sounds" setting in "Sound preferences" settings requires restart of gdm to take effect
Last modified: 2006-10-17 14:45:24 UTC
Changing the sound preferences does not result in the changes taking place immediately. I need to restart X(gdm) for the new settings to take effect. To reproduce: Open the "System->Preferences->Sound" menu. Click on the "Sounds" menu tab Change the "Select Check Box" sound to "beep" and "Select Menu Item" sound to "clink". Close the preferences dialog. Notice how selecting a checkbox, or selecting a menu item does not make a sound. Now restart X, and re-login. Now notice how the settings you chose for sound are active. This is always reproducible. The sound settings should be effective immediately, without needing to restart X/gdm.
