GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 361958
Change sort order via view menu
Last modified: 2012-02-20 11:33:08 UTC
I'd like to be able to sort my wide view decending rather than ascending by date. I can't seem to set sort order for anything in the wide view. Maybe view -> current view -> sort by -> [ date, subject, sender, priority ] Would be a good addition Other information:
you can right click on the headers and do a it.
You may be able to do it via a right click on the headers and after checking this seems accurate, however this is a completely non obvious way to do it. It should be shown somewhere in the view menu also for clarity sake. If a user wants to sort the emails first they'll try to click on the headers, noticing that that fails they'd check the menus for something which will allow them to do it. Context menus are not always appropriate and should generally be backed up by a more obvious way of doing it.
Karl, you are right. This should be on the view menu as well.
Any proposals on what should be added to the menus and where?
we should see exactly what is currently shown on the context menu on the headers probably best in View -> Current View -> Sorting Options or something to that effect.
Hmm, what about a View -> Current View -> Customize Current View to match the context menu. Wow, that dialog still looks like ass, doesn't it... Another bug requested an "apply this view to all folders" option (yes please!), but I guess that would only apply to the mailer. Or would it?
not sure "Customize Current View" makes sense, as we're talking about how we should sort the list. I wouldn't know to go to customize current view intuitively, I would know to go to sorting options though.
