GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 361541
No windows contents
Last modified: 2008-03-16 19:19:37 UTC
Please describe the problem: This is a problem related to SAMBA file shares. I am having unidentified problems mounting samba shares in fstab. They used to mount, now they don't, without a change by me. When this problem occurs, and I open a Nautilus window from a user account, no window contents are shown at all. When, from a console, I run sudo nautilus, i get a working window. This is strange, and since my indepth knowledge to the interaction between the file system access, the protocol and the manager is limited, I figured I'd report it here. Please tell me which logs to post and I will. I am no newbie/beginner, so go right ahead. :) One more thing: I have the folders to be mounted /in my /mnt/... directory) as favorite folders in my Nautilus panel. Another thing: When I use the console to try to access these folders, they don't open either (console stalls for a long time, then return to prompt, displaying empty folders) Steps to reproduce: 1. Mount Samba shares. 2. Start Nautilus Actual results: Window is completely empty, decorations are there. Expected results: Displayed correctly Does this happen every time? Yes. Except for when I comment the Samba mounting points in fstab. Other information:
(not a blocker by definition.)
After some further investigation, I notice this bug stalls file operations as a whole. A console window will also stall. Bug is SAMBA related, information can be found here. https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/44874 As I am new to the whole concept of bugzilla, reporting and so on, could someone please take the appropriate steps with this bug? Thanks.
It seems from the Ubuntu report that this is a HAL bug and not a Nautilus one, so closing NOTGNOME. Thanks for the report, please feel free to report any other bugs you find.
